Point and Shoot Recommendations?

Hi all..used search a bit but didn't find any easily identifiable posts on the subject so forgive me if it's a repost of something that's been hashed before.

I've got a Rebel XTi D-SLR that I like using quite a bit, but due to its size, it's too big/bulky to carry around easily when I'm out on my motorcycle. (I hate backpacks/fannypacks/tankbags when I'm on a sport ride).

So, I'm looking for recommendations on some decent point and shoot style smaller cameras that can fit in the breast pocket or side pocket of a motorcycle jacket....preferably in the $400 or less range. I don't have any brand preferences and I don't mind used if I can get a good deal on a decent camera.

Would be great if you can give some pros and cons for anything suggested, but if not, I can google search for additional data too.

Thanks for any recommendations!

I asked the same question a while back and didn't get any answers. So I got the Canon G9. So far so good, it's much easier to carry along and has plenty of photo options. This is a link to CNET's review.

Thanks for the feedback. That's one I was looking at earlier today and it looks pretty nice. Will have to go look at one in person to see how the size fits though. Don't want *too* big, but it doesn't have to be a paper thin one either. Just something to comfortably thrown in the pocket of my leather jacket or in the tail storage on the bike (protected of course).

My Camera: Canon S5 and XTi

I LOVE my Canon S5 IS. Absolutely amazing camera that takes some fantastic photos.

And it's come down quite a bit in price since I bought mine last July.

Hey colin. I carry a Nikon S1. Its compact, and has very very low noise levels. Which seems to be an issue with a lot of point and shoots. Also it has a macro setting so that if you want to take an extremely close up shot, you can if you like. Its great for rides since its so thin.

The Canon PowerShot series seems to be pretty rugged, and the quality is good. Abby bought an A95 just before we went to China in 2005 and she has taken thousands of images with it; she carries it in her pocket or her fanny pack when she rides. The macro is decent, and the lens is much sharper than I expected for the price.
