Arrow Camera software techniques and help...

Here you can ask and give help on everything post-processing related to your pictures, including:
  • Photo Management Software (SmugMug, Picasa, Flickr, etc.)
  • Digital Photography Software (i.e. Adobe Photoshop)
  • Plug-ins or effects
  • Specific filters or filtering software

Ask away and give a hand to others!

My Camera: Canon 40D

I just got Adobe Photoshop CS3 from my friend, and I haven't a clue how to use it.

Before, I simply used Picasa as my editor. It met my needs at the time; a little touch up here, fix the contrast and such. Now I'm ready to move on and take a bigger step to what I want to do. I may still end up using Picasa for my BASIC of basic editing, but I have no idea what Photoshop is capable of. I just know it's alot.

Where do I begin? My friend kept his photoshop book, so I have nothihng. Any ideas? Advice?

mmmm.... I wouldn't use it yet, I'd use Adobe Lightroom.

If you really want to use PS, go buy a book. It's worth it. There are free tutorials online: Adobe Photoshop Basics Free Online Class - Course Outline. Do a search for a lot more, but I'd go buy PS for dummies or something.

PS is AMAZINGLY complicated and the capabilites of the program are just enormous.

PS 1 is where I started, all self taught, but that's not saying much. Actully started digital imageing was with a Quantel Paintbox in '86.
I know it can do Sooooo much more then I do, I guess I do what I am Comfortable with and don't take the time to explore more avenues.
I own 2 PS WOW books and have only skimmed them because I hate to read.
I pick up from word of mouth (thanks for the sharping tip last year Eric) or video or the graphics people at work. yea, like they have any time

They only way I could be taught is by trying and repetition till I figured out what the hell I could do and what was going on, very painful, but I was so in to it that I didn't care.

Here is a video to get you started if your interested.

My Camera: Nikon D70

I first learned Photoshop & Paint Shop Pro for doing my photos. Actually, I started on 35mm film 20+ years ago before digital. I only learned PS & PSP because I used to do my own graphics for my websites. That was in the 90's.

As for online photo stuff & have my own website & domain name. I don't need to post 10000000000 pictures of everything I take. I just upload a few samples to showcase what I can do. The rest are put in my CD collection (I have 600+ cds & about 10000 prints IIRC)

For filters/plug ins etc...there are tons of tutorials online. That's how I learned to use them...but I don't go over board with them in my photography. It tends too make pictures look too "artsy" if you will.

Currently I just use Photoshop CS (for pictures) & Dreamweaver MX to design my sites.

I would love to use PS, but the price is prohibitive. I use Photoelemants - Nikon NX2 - Photomatrix, and a sofwear that corrects lens distortion (can't remember the name)
