^they all look little too dark. Try using higher F/stop. dept of field is too shallow you can't see enough details. also you might wanna try shooting from a higher angle...

Hello,

Thank you very much for your comments on the images. In my next shoot I will address these issues. Do you think there is any chance of using a software program to lighten up the photos as well as give them more detail? Thanks again for the comments!

My Camera: must take pretty pictures

There are all kinds of software that will adjust brightness, but I can't think of one that will magically bring in more detail. Sharpness yes, but not detail.

I assume you received software when you purchased your Nikon?

Hello,

Yes, I did receive software with my D200 Nikon. I have Nikon Software Suite and a 30 Free Trial of Capture NX. I will set up another shoot and try using a higher f-stop and shoot from a higher angle as recommended. Thanks for taking the time to comment of the images!

Rings

Hello,

This is my second time shooting my rings and I hope it reflects better images. In my first shoot I used an aperture of f/5.6 for all three rings and was not sure of my shutter speed. In this shoot I shot the Onyx at f/11+ aperture and 125 shutter speed. The Lapis was shot at f/16+ aperture and 125 shutter speed. Last, the Turquios ring I shot at f/13+ and a shutter speed of 125. I would welcome feedback as I feel like I am just beginning to understand light! Thanks for looking!

better. the second one is the best of the three. are you just using the flash on camera or is this another light source? it looks like the shadow of the camera is covering the rings a bit and what is causing them to be a bit dark.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to review my images. Yes, I did use a flash and also had a chandelier light off to the right of the rings hanging from the ceiling. I also had a floor lamp of which I had turned towards the wall. The only direct light was the Nikon SB-600 flash. Perhaps I should have used a higher aperture on the Onyx and Turquoise rings? I did notice shadows when I was shooting should I have turned off the regular lights and used only the Nikon SB-600 flash? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I thank you kindly for taking the time to critique my work. Thank you!

Went to the Olympia Camera Club meeting tonight, had just a tad bit of light when we got done. Have to say everyone there was really nice, good group of people.

Practice

We to an Olympia group meet-up tonight, lighting was the main focus (no pun intended), I shot some random things strictly on manual, played with settings.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun, even if I have to learn about lighting yet. The bike shot turned out great! Now I am curious as to how often those bikes are washed and waxed... shiny!

Playing around with some lighting. Now I just need to find some non-porous poster board so I can have a smoother background.

Very Old flash

So I found out that if I run my 26 year old Nikon SB-24 flash in Manual as well as the camera, plus a little handmade diffusion cone from the lighting kit, I can still get some decent use out of it.

Full frame.

crop.
