Very nice 9deuce9rr; What lighting did you use? And as a suggestion, could you light the cigar next time?

i thought about the cigar lighting, but not till it was all said and done :-( i photoshopped in some smoke and a red tip afterward, but figured i'd post the unlit version b/c it looked too fake... good suggestion tho

i have a 430ex, which i set up to camera left and triggered by ebay cactus wireless trigger... the flash had a home made diffuser on it, but apparently/obviously was still a little too hot

What kind of sharpening techniques are you using in post processing?

i softened his face a bit using filters>noise>median
then sharpened the entire picture with filters>other>high pass
then masked out the background so it only sharpened him

there was a lot of individual curves adjustments, adjusted for each part of the picture and then a TON of masking. i literally (since i was bored) probably had 25 layers in each picture.

in both of them the background was b/w and then style>multpily... then opacity dropped

hope these answer ur guys' questions... and thanks for looking!
